Thursday’s warm-up: What to expect and how to prepare

From air quality alerts to sunny weekend activities

HOUSTON – Good morning from KPRC 2! Let’s dig into the latest weather updates with our meteorologist, Justin Stapleton.

Thursday’s weather and air quality alerts

We’ve got air quality alerts in effect across parts of Harris County, extending down towards Galveston and into Brazoria County. These alerts stem from high levels of ozone particulates, which might cause some haziness. If you have asthma or other respiratory issues, it’s a good idea to take extra care today.

Expect temperatures to rise up to around 86 degrees with a noticeable increase in humidity that might make things feel a bit sticky.

Weekend weather outlook and activities

Looking ahead to the weekend, prepare for a front moving through tonight into tomorrow. This will clear the skies, leading to a sunny weekend—great news for those planning to attend the Houston Art Car Parade on Saturday. With temperatures hovering in the low to mid-80s, it promises to be a picturesque weekend.

If you’re planning to participate in or attend the parade, expect clear skies and pleasant temperatures from 10 a.m. onwards.

Long-term weather patterns and predictions

As we head into next week, the weather looks to remain stable with temperatures sitting comfortably in the mid to upper 80s. The high pressure system situated south of Los Angeles and San Diego continues to influence our weather, keeping the jet stream—and cooler temperatures—well to our north.
