Mayde Creek area sees heavy flooding

HOUSTON – A west Harris County intersection flooded by nearby Mayde Creek, caused problems Friday for commuters.

At least a half dozen drivers tried and failed to negotiate the area near Greenhouse Road and Saums Road.

"I'm not good with flooding. I have never experienced that at all," one woman, new to the area and wished to remain anonymous said.

That driver's 2013 Toyota Camry was flooded and stuck in the middle of Saums Road with an elderly passenger for about 20 minutes before three good Samaritans in a large high clearance truck came to the rescue.

"She said she needed help so we helped," Abraham Guzman said.

Guzman and two friends got out of their truck and pushed the Camry into a Shell station on the corner.

Over the course of the day, the parking lot of the gas station and convenience store became a boneyard for flooded cars waiting to be towed.
By 4 p.m. Friday the water has receded significantly but was still slowing evening rush hour in the area.

Nearby residents say the area often floods during heavy rain. Local precipitation was measured upward of 4 inches in the area.
