Black Girl Depression: Addressing mental health in the black community
As Black History Month continues, there’s an important conversation happening around mental health in the Black community, especially for children and teens. Research shows that symptoms of depression in Black youth are often misunderstood or labeled as behavior problems, and fewer than half receive treatment after a depressive episode. Experts say stigma and limited access to care continue to play a role. Stella Olise, Licensed Professional Counselor with The Harris Center for Mental Health & IDD, joins KPRC 2+ to talk about mental health within the black community and what families should know.
