Aerial Footage Shows Flooded Homes Along River in Tampa Area After Idalia Passes Aerial footage showed extensive flooding on the banks of the Alafia River in the Tampa Bay area, on Wednesday, August 30, after powerful Hurricane Idalia made landfall in the state’s Big Bend region earlier that day. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for the Alafia River, as storm surge from Idalia was expected to cause record flooding. Minor flooding was expected to continue along the river until Friday, the NWS said. “Residents along the Alafia River between Gibsonton and US Hwy 301 face the greatest threat of flooding,” Hillsborough County officials said.
