Protesters chant 'go to hell, Shell' at company's AGM in London
Climate protesters interrupted Shell’s annual shareholder meeting in London on Tuesday, May 23, chanting, “Go to Hell, Shell” to the tune of Hit the Road Jack, forcing proceedings to be delayed. This footage was captured at the ExCeL venue by Fossil Free London, a group who protested at the event. Several other climate groups also protested at the AGM, including Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion. Proceedings were delayed for over an hour amid waves of disruption from activist groups, according to reports. In a statement to Storyful, a Shell spokesperson said: “We respect people’s right to express their point of view and welcome any constructive engagement on our strategy and the energy transition. However, yet again protestors have shown that they are not interested in constructive engagement." Shell says it has a “clear target” to become a net-zero business by 2050.
