Turkey gives Mexico puppy after rescue dog dies in earthquake search
Mexico’s army held a ceremony to welcome the arrival of a new puppy gifted by Turkey after one of the military’s canine team died during earthquake search efforts. Rescue dog Proteo died on Feb. 6 while searching for earthquake survivors of the devastating earthquake in southeastern Turkey. Proteo, was dispatched to Turkey as part of a specialized search and rescue team, which included experts and canine teams from the Mexican Army. Last week the army asked its social media followers for help naming the new puppy, who was ultimately called Arkadas, meaning “friend” in Turkish.
