Suspect arrested after SWAT standoff in southwest Houston
suspect wanted for five felony warrants was taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside a southwest Houston home for hours on Wednesday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Members of the Violent Persons Task Force went to the home located on Carew, near Beechnut Street to execute an arrest warrant for the man.The Harris County sheriff’s office SWAT was dispatched, because authorities said the man barricaded himself inside the home. According to KPRC 2 Re’Chelle Turner, who’s reporting from the scene, deputies used a loudspeaker and was heard saying, “This is the Harris County Sheriff, Joseph Catarineau, we have a warrant for your arrest.” According to court records, Catarineau has five warrants, all issued on Feb. 12. Court documents indicate he is charged with fraud, and while in court, on Dec. 14, deputies say Catarineau attacked a bailiff, judge and prosecutor. He bonded out of jail on those charges in May 2022. Catarineau was scheduled for a court hearing on Feb. 9. According to court records, he did not appear, therefore the arrest warrant was issued. The area around Beechnut Street and Dunlap was blocked off for several hours as the investigation continues.
