Traditions of Día de Muertos: How to build Mexican-inspired ofrenda to celebrate lives of loved ones

Día de Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a vibrant tradition that honors and celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed. One of its central elements is the ofrenda, an altar decorated with marigolds, candles, photos, and favorite foods to remember those we’ve lost. Luis Gavito, curator of the ofrendas exhibition for Multicultural Education & Counseling through the Arts (MECA), demonstrates how to build an ofrenda ahead of the holiday.
