Black maternal health week raises awareness and connects expectant mothers to available resources
Black Maternal Health Week runs April 11-17, 2025. Memorial Hermann wants to help raise awareness about racial health disparities and efforts to close the health equity gap. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), black women are three times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy-related complications, and more than twice as likely to experience severe maternal morbidity. Dr. Chioma Ogbejesi-Ajah, an OB/GYN at Memorial Hermann Medical Group Cypress, recently stopped by Houston Life to discuss the risks associated with pregnancy complications and how women can seek out local resources and available support.
