This children's fruit puzzle is mystifying the internet

Facebook

It's an innocent looking puzzle, filled with fruit, but it's creating havoc on the internet.

It's a seemingly simple math problem, using apples, bananas and coconuts -- but due to some visual tricks, the verdict on the answer is still out.

The problem asks to determine the numeric value of each fruit. The top equation shows three single apples, added together to equal 30 -- meaning each apple has a value of 10.

Next, the bundles of bananas equal the number four, and the coconut halves equal two.

In the final equation, you're asked to find the sum of a single coconut half, a single apple and a bundle of three bananas.

This is where it gets tricky.

Some say that since the halves equal two, then a single half must equal one. So, since a bundle of four bananas equals four, then three must equal three -- which would make the final answer 14.

Well -- that's it then, right? THINK AGAIN!

Some say the coconut image always equals two -- while the bundle of bananas always equals four, regardless of the different illustration. This would make the answer 16.

Hopefully, someday, we'll come together to find the final answer to this mystery.
