Sheldon ISD school bus hit by pickup northeast of Houston

30 students aboard bus at time of crash, deputies say

HOUSTON – A school bus was hit by a pickup Wednesday morning in Harris County, just northeast of Houston.

The crash happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of C.E. King Parkway and Garrett Road.

Video from Sky2 over the scene showed bus number 112 from the Sheldon Independent School District was involved in the crash.

Harris County deputies said that at least 30 students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. None of them appeared to be injured.

Sheldon Independent School District released a statement following the crash:

"A Sheldon ISD school bus (Bus # 112) carrying 34 Garrett Elementary students was struck from behind this morning at a traffic light located at the intersection of Garrett Road and C.E. King Parkway.

"EMS and fire personnel arrived at the scene and indicated no one was injured in the accident. All students and drivers were checked by emergency responders, and no injuries were found.

"Sheldon ISD administrators indicated that all students will be transported to school within the next few minutes.

"Parents of the students who were on the bus are being notified at this time."

The pickup sustained significant damage to its front end.

The school bus left the scene about 8:20 a.m..

The roadway was closed while emergency crews were at the scene.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
