UT president calls emails defending school song โextremistโ
AUSTIN, Texas โ Racist emails sent to the University of Texas amid a debate over the school song โThe Eyes of Texasโ were โabhorrent and hatefulโ but donโt truly represent the Longhornsโ alumni and fans, university President Jay Hartzell said Tuesday. AdSince Monday, at least two former players have tweeted they received threats from Texas fans for protesting the song. โA few extremist views in the sample of emails the Texas Tribune reported on do not speak for the 540,000 proud Longhorn alumni who actively support our students and university. Out of the many emails I received this fall, a very small number included comments that were truly abhorrent and hateful. The title of the song is taken from a favored saying of a former school president who had mimicked remarks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

$34 million, private planes, cars and housing allowances: Hereโs how much UT-Austin is paying football coach Steve Sarkisian
Sarkisian, who was hired Jan. 2, will make $5.2 million in his first year as coach and is guaranteed a $200,000 raise each year. He will additionally receive a one-time payment of $1.2 million if he is still head coach on December 31, 2024. Sarkisianโs starting salary is over $5 million more than former head coach Tom Herman and $10 million more than former head coach Charlie Strong, according to the Dallas Morning News. AdThe University is still paying Herman $15 million over the next three years as part of his termination contract. Before that he was head coach for the University of Washington and the University of Southern California.

Bama's Waddle back practicing, status for title game unclear

Now that we have rung in 2021, Del Conteโs stance changed and the school has announced that Herman has been fired. A home loss to Iowa State had Longhorn nation demanding a coaching change after Texas was eliminated from any chance at returning to the Big 12 championship game. Texas wasted no time, immediately naming Alabama Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian as head coach.
