Recent cold snaps across Southeast Texas may have brought freezing temperatures, but they did not eliminate mosquitoes, according to Harris County Public Health.

The City of Sugar Land says mosquitos collected in the city have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The Montgomery County Public Health District announced Wednesday it has received confirmation from the Texas Department of State Health Services of the first case of West Nile Virus in Montgomery County for 2025.

The city says they were notified of the positive case by Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES).
