Omar Orlando Perez, a Texas man, was charged with animal cruelty and abandonment after police say he left his puppy outside Pittsburgh International Airport and repeatedly chased it away as it tried to follow him. Security footage showed Perez releasing the dog at the curb and forcing it toward a busy roadway before entering the terminal alone. Perez told authorities he could not afford to take the dog on his flight after losing his job as a truck driver. The puppy was found safe and will be placed in foster care while Perez awaits a preliminary hearing.
