Kevin Bacon brings music back to venues for charity concert

NASHVILLE, Tenn. โ€“ Musician and actor Kevin Bacon is bringing live music back to venues that have been shuttered this year with an all-star concert TV special. The charity concert airing on CBS on Dec. 15 will raise money for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and WhyHunger. All these independently owned venues were closed to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic. โ€œThe joy that you see among the people that are playing, I think, is very infectious in our show,โ€ said Bacon. Although he also hasn't been able to perform in front of fans this year, Bacon has been singing and playing to a smaller audience of sorts.

Singer songwriter Brandi Carlile has had a productive year and that's led her to be the leading nominee at the Americana Honors and Awards for her roles as a solo artist, a member of the group The Highwomen, as a producer and as a songwriter. Also nominated as artist of the year were Tanya Tucker and Yola. The Americana Music Association said the winners will be announced during its awards show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sept. 16, but said plans are still unfolding for the show. Indonesian choreographers provide digital stage for dancers

Two Indonesian choreographers are helping fellow dancers who lost their jobs due to the new coronavirus outbreak in the country by setting up aYouTube channel as a platform where dancers, choreographers and dance teachers can perform, then receive donation from viewers. So Rukmarata and Yulfianti, members of the Jakarta Arts Council, started Saweran Online on the Indonesian Dance Network channel. On this digital stage, dancers can show their work; the shows are free, but viewers are encouraged to donate. Included are traditional Indonesian dance, contemporary ballet and even dance workouts for older viewers.

Yola's Headed For The Grammys First, Then Houston

When shes done there, Yola will be headed to Heights Theater for a February 7 show, her first-ever Houston gig. Like, its very useful to have a black woman in service to you. If theres anything that music has proven its that black woman in service has been popular over decades. I was told by a record company executive once that no one wanted to hear a black woman sing rock and roll. Yola makes her Houston debut Friday, February 7 at Heights Theater, 339 W. 19th.
