Indiana coach Tom Allen didn't mince words Sunday. Forgetting the lingering images and emotions from Saturday's dismal 34-6 season-opening loss at No. 18 Iowa won't be easy, but Allen knows it's a must if the Hoosiers hope to rebound against Idaho. Corral, Ole Miss take down No. 7 Indiana in Outback Bowl

The Ole Miss defense, which allowed 535.7 yards and 40.3 points per game during the regular season, came through with one more stop to clinch the school's first bowl win since beating Oklahoma State in the 2016 Sugar Bowl. leaving Indiana with an opportunity to pull out its first bowl win in nearly 30 years. The Hoosiers, who don't have a postseason win since the 1991 Copper Bowl bowl, drove to the Rebels 33 before stalling and turning it over on downs. The Big Ten logo was replaced by an Outback Bowl logo on jerseys, and the letters “LEO” were added to helmets. POLL IMPLICATIONSThe loss could cost Indiana what likely would have been a Top 10 finish in the final AP Poll.

No. 7 Indiana excited to be in Outback Bowl against Ole Miss

“We were definitely kind of bummed out about what happened with the New Year's Six bowl game, but we just kind of used that as fuel to the fire,” running back Stevie Scott III said. “It has been 29 years since we last won a bowl game,” quarterback Jack Tuttle said. The problem was a porous defense yielded 40.3 points and a nation’s-worst 535.7 yards per game in the team’s first season under Kiffin. In fact, it’s rare that Ole Miss is facing a Big Ten opponent at all. They haven’t faced a team from that league since beating Nebraska in the 2002 Independence Bowl.

Fields led Ohio State to a 6-0 record and the No. 7 Indiana (6-1) to its highest ranking since 1967, knocking off three ranked teams along the way. Indiana tied a program record Saturday by earning its sixth Big Ten win of the season, joining the 1967 and 1987 teams. Tuttle also lost a fumble that led to a Wisconsin field goal. “He goes running into the locker so I’m thinking, I’m telling Dex (Dexter Williams), ‘OK, this is your time. Indiana entered the day with a Big Ten-leading 18 takeaways and used an early turnover to take the lead for good. Wisconsin had moved the ball to the Indiana 39 when Tiawan Mullen sacked Mertz and knocked the ball loose.

Retired officer, ex-college athlete among victims of unrest

It came on a violent night in St. Louis, which saw four officers shot, businesses burned and ransacked, and people pelting officers with rocks hours following a peaceful protest. Another officer shot back, and the suspects fled but were arrested. Near where the officer was wounded, police found a man shot to death and a handgun under his body. The owner of the pawn shop, who is white, was arrested in the death of Horton, a 43-year-old black man. ___OMAHA, NEBRASKAJames Scurlock, a 22-year-old black man, was killed Saturday after authorities said he tussled with the owner of two downtown bars.
