Manotas scores on late header, Dynamo beats Sporting KC 2-1
HOUSTON Mauro Manotas scored on header in the 85th minute and the Houston Dynamo beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on Saturday night. The Dynamo (3-2-4) have a four-match undefeated streak, outscoring opponents 10-3. Sporting KC (5-3-2) is winless in its last four. Houston goalie Marko Maric deflected Khiry Shelton's shot to Erik Hurtado, who banked it into the back of the net in the 30th minute for Sporting KC. Tim Melia made four saves for Sporting KC.
Russell scores on header, Sporting KC beats Dynamo 1-0
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Johnny Russell scored on a header in the 12th minute and Sporting Kansas City held on for its third win a row, 1-0 over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night. Russell converted a perfectly weighted cross from Graham Smith into the right side of the net. Tim Melia made five saves for his second shutout in a row and sixth of the season. Sporting KC (10-11-7) remained outside of playoff position but continued to close the gap with its recent run. The Dynamo (9-15-4) extended their winless streak to seven games with six losses over that stretch.
