Lindor, Mets talk about new deal; Rosario struggles in CF

โ€œWeโ€™re just talking.โ€The Mets obtained Lindor from Cleveland in January, and he's signed for this season at $22.3 million. Canning now has 13 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has permitted three hits in 8 2/3 innings with 16 strikeouts and a walk. Nola has given up 15 hits in 8 2/3 innings, seeing his ERA rise to 10.38. Kyle Wright made his fourth start, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Seeing is believing: Bauer shuts eye, pitches shutout ball

Bauer wound up pitching three scoreless innings with the creative approach, striking out three while allowing two hits and a walk. Known for speaking his mind and going his own way, Bauer said he regularly shuts one eye during bullpen sessions and other workouts. METS 6, ASTROS 1 (6)Jacob deGrom pitched two scoreless innings in his spring debut, striking out three and allowing one hit. AdBLUE JAYS 7, PHILLIES 1 (7)Newcomer Tanner Roark made his first start for Toronto, allowing one hit in two scoreless innings. Jorge Lรณpez threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

LeMahieu, Voit and Frazier also connected Tuesday โ€” Voit homered twice โ€” when New York hit six home runs and pummeled Toronto 20-6. Gerrit Cole (6-3) had another overpowering start for New York, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth. Higashioka had never topped three homers in a season but has four in the past six days while emerging as Cole's preferred batterymate.

Deivi Garca earned his first major league win, Gleyber Torres drove in four runs and the New York Yankees snapped a five-game losing streak, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Wednesday night. The Yankees had lost 15 of 20 and fallen to the edge of the expanded playoff field. Luke Voit hit an RBI single that put the Yankees ahead 3-2 in the fifth and Torres added a two-run double. UP NEXTNew York RHP Gerrit Cole (4-3, 3.63 ERA) will start Thursday against Baltimore LHP Keegan Akin (0-0, 2.08) in the opener of the Yankees four-game weekend series against the Orioles.

LEADING OFF: Darvish vs. Bauer; Yanks look to Garcia

A look at what's happening around the majors Wednesday:___PAIR OF ACESYu Darvish and Trevor Bauer pitch at Wrigley Field in a matchup of ace right-handers headed in different directions. Darvish, one of the front-runners for the NL Cy Young Award, is going for his eighth straight victory for the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs. BRONX BLUESThe Yankees turn to rookie right-hander Deivi Garcia (0-1, 3.38) in the finale of a critical series against the Blue Jays. We all know were capable of more, significantly more, both individually and collectively.Right-hander Tanner Roark (2-1, 5.74) is set to pitch for second-place Toronto. With so many franchises struggling financially after the 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, contraction now seems likely.

Braves' Markakis hits walkoff HR after opting into season

Following a chat with home plate umpire Alan Porter, Waguespack left the field without making a pitch and Montoyo instead brought in Rafael Dolis.

Astros hit MLB-record 6 HRs in 2 innings, beat A's 15-0

Helped by six of their seven total homers, Houston raced to an 11-0 lead after two innings. Chirinos capped the first with a two-run homer and hit a three-run shot in the seventh. Alvarez hit his second solo shot into the third deck in right field in the second inning. TRAINER'S ROOMAthletics: OF Ramn Laureano was out of the lineup a second straight day after leaving Saturday's game with cramps in his right leg. Astros: 1B Yuli Gurriel was out of the lineup for a third straight game with a sore left hamstring, but he took ground balls and ran prior to the game.

A's edge Astros 3-2 in 13 to inch closer in playoff chase

Robbie Grossman singled home the winning run with two outs in the 13th inning to give Oakland a 3-2 victory over the Astros on Friday night. Corban Joseph singled leading off the bottom of the 13th against Cy Sneed (0-1) and was sacrificed to second. Canha hit his 18th homer in the second, and Semien added his 20th on a 2-0 pitch from Verlander in the sixth. Unhappy AltuveJose Altuve went 1 for 6 but the Astros second baseman was particularly unhappy with plate umpire Tripp Gibson after flying out in the 10th. Armenteros has been in the minors since July 22 because Houston had no need for a fifth starter.

Going out swinging: Puig brawls again as Reds finish trade

Call it Pirates vs. Reds, round two - and a fitting farewell for Yasiel Puig. Four Pirates and four Reds were ejected in Pittsburgh's 11-4 win, including Puig, who was in the process of being traded. Reds manager David Bell faces a suspension for coming back onto the field and going after Pirates manager Clint Hurdle during the fracas. Puig prolonged the fight that started when Reds reliever Amir Garrett went toward the Pirates dugout and threw several punches. Puig was given a warm ovation from Reds fans as he left the field after his ejection, knowing he was headed to Cleveland.
