Port Houston Elementary parents gathered Monday night to press Houston Independent School District officials for answers after HISD identified the more than 100-year-old school as one of 12 campuses that could close next school year.

The district posted the decision a little after 11 p.m. on Facebook, citing student, staff and family safety.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has announced schools in the district will be open on Wednesday with the exception of a few.

Following Thursday’s damaging storm, Cy-Fair ISD announced they will also be closed on Monday.

The school district recognized the eclipse as a learning opportunity for students and staff.
