New York Film Festival sets lineup for 60th edition
The New York Film Festival will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a robust 32-film main slate and a number of hometown tales, including James Gray’s Queens coming-of-age drama “Armageddon Time” and Laura Poitras’ documentary “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” about artist Nan Goldin’s battle against the Sackler family.
Aronofsky, Iñarritu films set for Venice Film Festival
Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale,” the Marilyn Monroe drama “Blonde,” Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths” and Guadagnino’s “Bones and All,” with Timothée Chalamet, will all have their world premieres in competition at the Venice International Film Festival this fall.
Dern wins supporting actress Oscar for 'Marriage Story'

Dern’s win Sunday came nearly three decades after her first Academy Award nomination, a lead actress bid in 1992 for “Rambling Rose.” She received a supporting actress nod in 2015 for “Wild,” and has earned Emmys and a wealth of critics’ honors over the years. Dern comes from a pedigreed Hollywood family: father Bruce is a two-time Oscar nominee (“Coming Home,” “Nebraska”), and Ladd played her mom in “Rambling Rose” and earned her own Oscar nomination, for supporting actress.
Things to Do: Houston Film Critics Society "Best of 2019" Awards
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino's 9th movie, and Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story lead all nominees for the Houston Film Critics Society's "Best of 2019" awards. Winners will be announced January 2 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Both Hollywood and Marriage secured six nominations, including Best Picture. Closely following, with five nominations each, are 1917, Sam Mendes's extended take World War I epic, Bong-Joon Ho's Parasite, and The Irishman.
