Some Republican Texas House members floated want to give more power to the attorney general to sue cities and issue financial penalties.

Texas lawmakers will be able to draw more aggressively partisan maps for the state House, Senate and education board when they return in 2027.

Bill Elliott was placed on administrative leave in October after his son, a football coach at Celina’s middle school, was accused of secretly filming boys in the school’s locker room. A district report found he pressured the principal to hire his son.

The top-ranked Celina High School football team is barrelling toward another state championship this month. Its coach is barred from the field.

The House refused to back a bill that would apply only to the state’s largest cities.

Texas cities and counties have already had their budgets compressed by a variety of factors, including the state’s current property tax limits.

The House passage of the measure asking voters to amend the state Constitution to tighten the state’s bail laws hands a major policy win to Gov. Greg Abbott.

Five GOP lawmakers who targeted the exhibit also called for the cancellation of the “Palestinian Children and the Politics of Genocide” lecture, which is still scheduled.

Little filed paperwork for House District 65, currently held by freshman Rep. Kronda Thimesch, R-Lewisville. The filing, made public Wednesday, allows him to start raising money for the office.

The suspended attorney general’s lawyers focused on disloyalty and attacked evidence, while impeachment managers accused Paxton of excessive and obsessive misconduct. Neither side ignored the politics behind the case.

On cross examination, Paxton’s defense attorney launched into whistleblower Ryan Vassar for bringing no physical evidence when he and others reported their boss to the FBI. Vassar said he was a witness and not an investigator.
