It's been a feast-or-famine postseason on the pitcher's mound so far. Then there were teams like the Indians and Chicago White Sox, whose seasons are over in large part because of control problems that popped up at the worst possible time. The Atlanta-Cincinnati contest was the first postseason game to be scoreless after 11 innings. San Diego was only in that position because the Cardinals couldn't hold off the Padres' sluggers Thursday. The White Sox ended up using nine pitchers and Oakland used eight.

CLEVELAND The Indians are ready to give starter Mike Clevinger another chance and the ball. President of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said Indians players were consulted before the team decided to bring back Clevinger. When the Indians were informed Plesac had broken curfew, the team had him driven back to Cleveland by a car service. The Indians have dealt with some nagging injuries, an inconsistent offense and the Clevinger-Plesac affair threatened to undermine the season. Afterward, the team optioned Clevinger and Plesac to the club's alternate training site in Eastlake, Ohio.

Once they learned about Plesac going out, the Indians immediately got him car service to drive him to Cleveland. They can't be 100 percent certain, but the Indians don't believe Plesac or Clevinger came in contact with anyone who has the virus. I guess I would just say theyre in different stages of acceptance.Antonetti said any further discipline for Clevinger and Plesac would handled internally. The Indians are obviously disappointed in Clevinger and Plesac, who have both pitched well for one of baseball's best staffs.

CLEVELAND Indians starter Mike Clevinger will be quarantined and undergo testing after violating COVID-19 protocols during the team's weekend trip to Chicago, the second Cleveland pitcher in two days to be disciplined for breaking team rules. The team said Monday that Clevinger will not make his scheduled start Tuesday at home against the Cubs. The Indians had Plesac drive home so he wouldn't be around his teammates in case he had contracted the coronavirus. It's not known if Clevinger and Plesac will face additional penalties from the Indians. Adam Plutko will start in place of Clevinger, a hard-throwing right-hander who is 1-1 with a 3.24 ERA.
