A vast network of labor unions, progressive organizations and clergy has been asking Minnesotans to stay away from work, school and stores Friday to protest against immigration enforcement in the state.

GALVESTON, Texas – A man was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop Monday in Galveston. Police said Officer Derrick Jaradi pulled over 18-year-old Luis Argueta around 3 a.m. in the area of 53rd Street near Avenue L.At some point, Jaradi shot Argueta. Argueta was taken to UTMB, where he was pronounced dead, police said. It is unclear why Argueta was pulled over, if he got out of the car or if he pulled out a weapon. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
