Tennessee has executed Harold Wayne Nichols by lethal injection for the 1988 rape and murder of 20-year-old Karen Pulley, a student at Chattanooga State Community College.

In a story published Nov. 12, 2025, about an upcoming execution in Tennessee, The Associated Press, relying on court records, erroneously reported how old Karen Pulley was when she died.

The Tennessee Supreme Court has set execution dates for four people, including the only woman in the state on death row.

Twenty-eight men have died by court-ordered execution so far this year in the U.S., and nine other people are scheduled to be put to death in seven states during the rest of 2025.
