Jennifer Kupcho made seven birdies on an unforgiving Riviera for a 5-under 66 and a one-shot lead over Sei Young Kim in the opening round of the 81st U.S. Women’s Open.

Jinhee Im, A Lim Kim, Yealimi Noh and Rio Takeda each carded 4-under 68 to tie for the lead after the morning groupings in the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills.

Arpichaya Yubol followed a career-best finish on the LPGA Tour with a career-low 10-under 61 and took a two-shot lead over Jenny Shin after the first round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Natthakritta Vongtaveelap eagled the par-5 fifth and closed with a birdie in fading light on the par-3 ninth for a 6-under 66 and a share of the first-round lead Wednesday in the LPGA Tour’s LOTTE Championship.

Shibuno was at 4-under 209 as she bids to become only the third player to make majors their first two LPGA Tour titles. The others were In Gee Chun (2015 U.S. Women's Open and 2016 Evian Championship and Se Ri Pak, who won the LPGA Championship and U.S. Women's Open in 1998. Shibuno won the Women's British Open last year at Woburn, and declined to take up LPGA membership because she didn't think she was ready.
