Rush Limbaugh, voice of American conservatism, has died

Limbaugh, the talk radio host who became the voice of American conservatism, has died. Unflinchingly conservative, wildly partisan, bombastically self-promoting and larger than life, Limbaugh galvanized listeners for more than 30 years with his talent for sarcastic, insult-laced commentary. โ€œWeโ€™re supposed to be horrified by the protesters,โ€ Limbaugh told his listeners the next day after the Jan. 6 attack. AdRush Hudson Limbaugh III was born Jan. 12, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to the former Mildred Armstrong, and Rush Limbaugh Jr., who flew fighter planes in World War II and practiced law at home. He attracts more listeners with just his voice than the rest of us could ever imagine,โ€ Beck wrote in Time magazine in 2009.

After White House test, Pa. senator calls COVID-19 case mild

Meanwhile, a Republican lawmaker who attended Wednesday's public meeting in Gettysburg with Mastriano, Sen. Judy Ward, revealed that she also has tested positive. The public meeting was held, despite state Department of Health and internal Senate pandemic directives limiting gatherings. The AP learned of the White House test results from a person with direct knowledge of the meeting. Mastriano's White House trip followed the hours-long meeting in a Gettysburg hotel, which was held at Mastrianoโ€™s request and where few people wore masks. It is not clear how state Senate Republican leaders, who have remained silent about the matter, have responded internally to a potential outbreak stemming from that meeting.

Carlos Barria | ReutersFormer United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley ignited controversy Friday as a clip of her in a recent interview discussing the Confederate flag went viral. "For many people in the state," the Confederate flag stood for "traditions of history, of heritage, and of ancestry," Haley said. "At the same time, for many others in South Carolina, the flag is a deeply offensive symbol of a brutally oppressive past," she said. Haley ordered the Confederate flag be removed from statehouse grounds in the wake of the shooting, when photos of Roof posing with the flag and a white supremacist screed were discovered. Haley continued: "We don't have hateful people in South Carolina.
