Read full article: Netflix once again dominates Golden Globe TV nominations

(Liam Daniel/Netflix via AP)NEW YORK โ€“ Netflix rode the voracious hunger for TV content during a year of pandemic viewership to a dominant showing at the Golden Globe nominations. The streaming giant scooped up 20 small-screen nods โ€” nearly three times as many as its closest competitor, HBO, and beating the 17 TV nominations it got last year. Streaming newcomer HBO Max scored two nominations with โ€œThe Flight Attendant,โ€ a best comedy TV berth and also earned โ€œThe Big Bang Theoryโ€ veteran Kaley Cuoco her first Globe nod. Little-known Pop TV earned five nominations โ€” all for the Canadian comedy โ€œSchittโ€™s Creek,โ€ which swept the comedy Emmy Awards last year. Adโ€œThe Greatโ€ now faces โ€œThe Flight Attendant,โ€ โ€œSchittโ€™s Creek,โ€ โ€œEmily in Parisโ€ and โ€œTed Lassoโ€ for bragging rights to best comedy TV series.

On Sunday eveningโ€™s socially distanced Emmy Awards, the Canadian comedy โ€œSchittโ€™s Creekโ€ made TV history by sweeping all of the major comedy awards it was nominated for, including all of the acting categories. โ€œSchittโ€™s Creekโ€ follows the rich Rose family, which is forced to move into a motel in the small town of Schittโ€™s Creek after they lose all of their money. Itโ€™s a fish out of water-type scenario, but as the Rose family begins to assimilate to the quirky town, viewers begin to fall in love with the quirky Roses. In reality, the cast of โ€œSchittโ€™s Creekโ€ should have been getting recognized by the Emmys for years now, but it was only until 2019 that the show and actors got recognized for their work. But there is no better way to go out on your last season of TV than by making history, right?

(The Television Academy and ABC Entertainment via AP)It was Regina King, winning her fourth career Emmy on Sunday, who perhaps summed up the proceedings the most succinctly โ€” and accurately: โ€œThis is freaking weird." Nobody was more thrilled than Daniel Levy, son of best actor winner Eugene Levy; the younger Levy won the award for comedy writing, shared a directing award and captured the supporting actor trophy. A CALL TO THE BOOTHLevy used some of his considerable mic time to urge viewers to vote in November. โ€œI know this seems like a really weird time to be celebrating,โ€ Zendaya said. Sterling K. (The Television Academy and ABC Entertainment via AP)LOS ANGELES โ€“ โ€œSchitt's Creek,โ€ the little Canadian show about a fish-out-of-water family, made history at Sunday's Emmy Awards with a comedy awards sweep, something even TV greats including โ€œFrasierโ€ and โ€œModern Familyโ€ failed to achieve. The awards for Pop TV's โ€œSchitt's Creekโ€ included best comedy series and trophies for its stars, including Catherine O'Hara and father-son Eugene and Daniel Levy. Moments later, his son won the award for comedy writing for โ€œSchitt's Creekโ€ episode, then shared a directing award and captured the supporting actor comedy trophy. As โ€œSchittโ€™s Creekโ€ gobbled up comedy awards, that left acclaimed โ€œInsecureโ€ and its creator Issa Rae empty-handed.
