HOUSTON – An arrest warrant has been issued for a former assistant dean of Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law after he was charged with theft, according to a law enforcement source.
The new charges come as part of an investigation into “improprieties related to the admissions process,” that came to light in Nov. 2019.
A law enforcement source told KPRC 2 Wednesday that Rene was scheduled to turn himself in to law enforcement but had not as of Wednesday afternoon and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
In February, TSU President Dr. Austin Lane was fired after the university’s board of regents voted 6-1 in favor of his termination.
A spokesperson for the DA’s office said Rene is expected to surrender in the coming days.
