As Houston prepares to welcome visitors for the FIFA World Cup 2026, city leaders are investing $7.5 million to improve safety along one of the city’s most heavily used hike-and-bike corridors: the Columbia Tap Trail.

Neighbors in MacGregor say the Columbia Tap Trail crossing at North MacGregor Way is dangerous for people on foot and on bikes, and even for drivers.

This dedication ceremony took place in the heart of Houston’s historic Third Ward, at the site of the Houston Housing Authority’s first development, which opened in 1947.
