East Valley Track & Field: Track athletes set for regional
Harlingen Highโs boys track & field team won the area meet. San Benitoโs Jarrid Lopez qualified in the 100 and anchors the 400 relay team with Homer Quiroz, Fabian Garcia and Michael Benavides. Jazmine Thompson won the shot put and discus, and Lady Cards pole vaulter Emma Reyes won area by a foot. Joining Navarro at the regional meet is Mia Trevino, Kaya Dickerson, Kiera Castillo, Ashley Reath and Angelina Rodriguez as well as the 400 relay, 800 relay and 1,600 relay teams. Lyfordโs 400 relay team hopes to be one to watch as it eyes state.

ALPINE โ After a handful of workshops and public hearings, the City of Alpine passed a newly revised dark skies ordinance that will regulate outdoor lighting at night and impose fines for violators after a five-year grace period. At the Tuesday night meeting, council also made hirings and appointments, approved contracts and donations and quibbled over one council member's place of residence.
