Director Lee Daniels’ “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” starring Andra Day as the jazz singer, was named best picture, while the Korean American family drama “Minari” got best intergenerational film. “We focus on films made by and for grownups,” said Tim Appelo, the film and television critic for AARP. Catherine O’Hara took best actress for “Schitt’s Creek,” Mark Ruffalo got best actor for “I Know This Much is True” and “This Is Us” was named best series.

"Nomadland" won the award for best drama film and "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" won best comedy film. Netflix's "The Crown" also garnered six nominations, the most for any television series this year as well. The historical drama took home awards for best drama, best actress, best actor and best supporting actress. In a night full of first-time honorees, Beijing-born Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color named Best Director at the Golden Globe Awards. Zhao, a first-time Globe nominee, is just the second woman to win Best Director at the award show, 37 years after Barbra Streisand for 1983's "Yentl." She also took home Best Drama Movie for her film, "Nomadland." Chadwick Boseman's win for Best Actor in a Drama Movie was also his first nomination. Daniel Kaluuya also picked up his first, for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Movie as Black Panther chairman Fred Hampton in the historical drama "Judas and the Black Messiah."

NEW YORK – Al Pacino, Tina Fey and Eli Manning will join a star-studded lineup to celebrate the selfless acts of New Yorkers. Robin Hood and iHeartRadio announced a collaboration Thursday to present “Heroes of New York,” which will air Dec. 1 on television and radio stations in New York. The show will feature musical performances from Mariah Carey, Tony Bennett and Andra Day. Carey will perform a medley, Bennett will sing “Smile” and Day will perform “Silent Night.”Other special guests include Jon Stewart, Kevin Bacon, Mariano Rivera, Michael Strahan, Ryan Seacrest and Tracy Morgan. In May, the New York-based poverty fighting organization, Robin Hood, and iHeartMedia held the “Rise Up New York!” telethon.

Sesame Workshop — the nonprofit, educational organization behind “Sesame Street” — will later this month air the half-hour anti-racist special "The Power of We” and hopes families will watch together. The special defines racism for younger viewers and shows how it can be hurtful. “Sesame Street,” which last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, has a history of explaining the world to children, tackling everything from foster care to substance abuse. The latest special comes on the heels of “Sesame Street” contributing to “Coming Together: Standing Up To Racism,” a CNN town hall special in June hosted by Van Jones and Erica Hill.
