HOUSTON – Auburn center Connor Lew, ranked as one of the top draft prospects at his position, visited the Texans, according to a league source.
Lew is making a speedy recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in October against Missouri. NFL teams recently received a letter with a medical update on Lew stating that he is far ahead of schedule in his rehab and should be ready for football activities in training camp.

Lew didn’t participate in drills at the NFL scouting combine and Pro Day, but bench pressed 225 pounds 31 times at the combine for the most of any center.
“This whole process has been unbelievable,” Lew told reporters at his Pro Day where he met with multiple teams. “It’s everything you dream about growing up as a kid, being a big fan of this sport and it’s finally here and you’re the one actually running these drills, you’re the one doing the bench press, you’re the one in these meetings talking to these scouts, it’s been great overall.”
A native of Kennesaw, Georgia, the 6-foot-3 1/2, 310-pounder is regarded as a plug-and-play type who should make a smooth transition to the NFL once he’s fully healthy again.
A team captain with a high school wrestling background, Lew is regarded as athletic and quick and strong at the point of attack and capable of getting to the second level. He gets high marks for toughness, intelligence and leadership.
Most projections for Lew are in the second round and third round.
Lew was a former All-SEC freshman selection.
Lew was a 4.0 student in high school. and chose Auburn after initially committing to Miami.
“Trying take it day by day and enjoy the process because this is the only time you’ll ever get to do something like this,” Lew said. “Everyday’s been great and I keep reminding myself how grateful I am for this opportunity and to be in this position.”
