Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez named AL Player of the Week after electric start to 2026 MLB season

Alvarez recorded three homers, two doubles and eight RBI across the week’s six games

HOUSTON – Major League Baseball announced today that Yordan Alvarez has been named American League Player of the Week.

The honor covers the week of March 30 through April 5. During that span, Alvarez hit .471 (8-for-17) in six games, with two doubles, three home runs, seven runs scored, and eight RBIs, while posting a 1.733 OPS.

For the season, Alvarez entered today leading the majors in OPS (1.478), slugging percentage (.900), and on-base percentage (.578). He is also tied with teammate Jose Altuve for first in both walks (12) and runs scored (10).

In his 10 games played overall in 2026, Alvarez is hitting .400 (12-for-30) with four home runs and 10 RBIs.

This marks the fourth time Alvarez has been named AL Player of the Week. The last Astros players to win the award were Alvarez and Alex Bregman, who were named AL co-Players of the Week for August 5–11, 2024.

Alvarez has also won the AL Player of the Month Award twice (June 2022 and September 2023).
