HOUSTON – Coming home again has paid off for Rice University baseball Head Coach David Pierce.
Hired last year and taking over in the middle of a struggling season on South Main, Pierce steadied the ship and began his rebuilding process.
While Rice finished with only 17 wins, the building blocks were put in place.
Now, in his first full season back at Rice, Pierce has the Owls believing again. Not only in winning at a high level, but also embracing the storied tradition of Rice Baseball, which won a national championship in the early 2000’s.
Pierce has Rice off to an 18-12 start to the season as they prepare to host UTSA Thursday through Saturday at Reckling Park.
The Roadrunners are a national powerhouse that reached the Super Regionals last spring and opened eyes all across the country when they upset Texas in regional play.
Coach Pierce spoke before Wednesday’s practice about his program and his style of coaching his players.
