The Texans could use a good young defensive tackle and hold the 28th overall pick of the first round.

Hunter, a second-team All-American and first-team All-Big 12 selection, stood on his combine tests Thursday while excelling in drills. The workout was attended by New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer, Saints coach Kellen Moore and Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor along with Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst and Jets general manager Darren Mougey.

Hunter recorded 41 tackles, 10 1/2 for losses and 2 1/2 sacks last season for the Red Raiders as they won the Big 12 and made it to the college football playoffs for the top-ranked run defense in the nation.

Hunter started every game at nose guard as Texas Tech allowed 68.1 rushing yards and 11.8 points per game.

Hunter (6-foot-3 1/2, 318 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.18 seconds at the combine.

He met with the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jets and Packers at the combine.

Hunter previously played at UCF and Auburn.
