HOUSTON – As you hear often with student-athletes playing high-level sports, show me what you can do on the floor, but specifically off the court as well.

Mercy Miller is showing that he can excel and also set an example for the importance of classroom success.

For his impressive work on the court and in the classroom, the University of Houston sophomore guard was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.

To receive Academic All-District honors, honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be a sophomore athletically and academically. Now, in his second season with the Cougars, Miller is an integrated studies major.

This season, Miller has competed in all but one game while helping lead the Cougars to a 30-6 overall record and a Tournament Sweet 16 appearance for the seventh consecutive season, the nation’s longest active streak.

In his past three games, Miller appears more comfortable as he’s scored in double figures in each game coming off the Cougars bench.

He is averaging 5.2 points and 1.9 rebounds per game and has scored double-digit points in each of the last three games, a first in his career.

The Los Angeles native scored 10 points with a season-high eight rebounds against Big 12 Conference-rival Colorado on February 28 and tallied 13 points with seven boards against #2/2 (1) Arizona during the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament Championship on March 14.

A year ago, Miller was named to the 2024-25 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Rookie Team.

A great start to his Houston career, and the best is yet to come for Mercy Miller.
