Texans promote Joe Vernon to senior vice president of football operations

HOUSTON – The Texans promoted executive Joe Vernon to senior vice president of football operations.

Vernon works closely with general manager Nick Caserio as a key lieutenant in the front office.

Hired in 2023, the veteran attorney from Michigan was promoted from special advisor to football operations.

Vernon completed the NFL League of Leaders program at the Stanford graduate school of business last year.

Previously, Vernon worked for Miller Canfield law firm in Detroit as a senior principal and resident director specializing in complex commercial litigation, including breach of contract, business tort, fraud, shareholder oppression, trademark, copyright, trade secret and automotive supplier disputes and appellate law. He is now listed as of counsel to Miller Canfield.

He was previously an adjunct professor at University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, teaching applied legal theory and analysis.

He has a dual law degree from Detroit Mercy and the University of Windsor.

He is a Wilfrid Laurier University graduate who played football.
