HOUSTON – The Texans are re-signing former starting safety M.J. Stewart to a one-year contract, per a league source.
Stewart tore his quadriceps tendon last season, but is making a sound recovery.

He underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve.
Stewart got hurt against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He was down for several minutes being attended to by trainers before his left leg was immobilized in an air cast.
He was carted off the field to the locker room for further examination. As Stewart was being driven off the field by trainers, he extended a thumbs-up to the crowd at NRG Stadium.
A former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round draft pick from North Carolina, Stewart, 30, has started three of eight games for the Texans this season. He entered Sunday with 25 tackles, one forced fumble, two passes defensed.
He has 237 career tackles, two interceptions and four forced fumbles.
