HOUSTON – The Texans locked up a veteran blocker to reinforce an offensive line in flux.

Veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl selection who emerged as a leader in the locker room mentoring younger players like rookie tackle Aireontae Ersery, has agreed to a one-year, $7 million maximum value deal. The contract was negotiated by agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Brown is the biggest player on the Texans’ roster and one of the larger players across the league at 6-foot-8, 380 pounds. The Texans wanted to have back Brown’s physicality and experience, and he wanted to stay in Houston. A Bastrop native who owns a horse ranch, Brown enjoyed playing for the Texans last season as part of a close-knit offensive line.

The Texans wanted continuity after trading veteran offensive lineman Tytus Howard in a financially-influenced move to the Cleveland Browns.

Brown, 32, started seven games in the regular season and one playoff game and the Texans won all of those games.

A former San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals starter, Brown recovered from a torn patellar tendon suffered in the 2024 season with the Bengals. Once he was healthy, the offensive line stabilized with him anchoring the right tackle position.

Brown has played in the NFL for 11 seasons and has started 103 of 110 career games. He has been working out at NRG Stadium and rehabbing an ankle injury that sidelined him for a playoff game against the Patriots. With a full offseason, Brown could be a factor from the start of the season.
