HOUSTON – The Texans’ backfield was shorthanded Wednesday with rookie starting running back Woody Marks held out due to an ankle injury and veteran backup Nick Chubb missing practice with a rib injury.

Chubb’s injury could sideline him against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. He left the game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium

Marks is expected to play Sunday, barring unforeseen circumstances after playing through an ankle injury against the Chiefs.

Several other players didn’t practice Wednesday, but all are injuries the Texans are managing and would expect them to be available Sunday.

That includes cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who played the entire game against Kansas City with a foot injury, offensive tackle Trent Brown (broken finger), defensive end Denico Autry (knee), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee).

The Texans got tight end Harrison Bryant and wide receiver Justin Watson back to practice as both players were officially designated for return from injured reserve.

Fullback Jakob Johnson was re-signed to the practice squad.
