Texans awarded Cody Schrader off waivers, waived Jakob Johnson

HOUSTON – The Texans were awarded running back Cody Schrader off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars, waiving veteran fullback Jakob Johnson.

Johnson has played in two career games with one catch for six yards for the Los Angeles Rams and one run for three yards.

Texans veteran running back Nick Chubb has a rib injury.

Schrader (5-foot-9, 214 pounds) played collegiately at Truman State and Missouri.

He rushed for 1,627 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior for Missouri, catching 41 passes for 328 yards. He finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

Johnson signed with the Texans in the offseason after a previous stint with the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

Johnson has played in seven games this season for the Texans.
