HOUSTON – The Texans signed former New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Ameer Speed to the practice squad.
Speed worked out for the Texans on Monday along with defensive back LaMareon James, running back Montrell Johnson and tight ends Tanner McClachlan and Gee Scott.

Speed, 26, is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound former Patriots sixth round draft pick.
He has also played for the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.
Speed won a national championship at Georgia.
In the NFL, Speed has nine career tackles. He has primarily played on special teams.
