MINNEAPOLIS – The Texans are starting backup quarterback Davis Mills in a preseason road opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, according to league sources.
The Texans opted to hold out starting quarterback C.J. Stroud in this first preseason game along with multiple other starters.

Mills is a former third-round draft pick from Stanford and starter.
In addition to Stroud, several other starters are not playing.
That includes running back Nick Chubb (head injury, expected back soon), wide receivers Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, tight end Dalton Schultz, left tackle Cam Robinson (leg), left guard Laken Tomlinson, right guard-tackle Tytus Howard,
On defense, ends Danielle Hunter, Will Anderson Jr., linebackers Azeez Al-Shaair and Henry To’oTo’o, cornerbacks Kamari Lassiter and Derek Stingley Jr., safeties C.J. Gardner-Johnson (knee injury, possibly back for Los Angeles Rams game), and Calen Bullock and Jaylen Reed (ankle, out three weeks) are not dressed out for the game.
The Texans’ starting lineup included left tackle Aireontae Ersery, left guard Juice Scruggs, center Jake Andrews, right guard Ed Ingram, right tackle Blake Fisher, tight end Cade Stover, wide receiver Jayden Higgins, wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson, running back Dare Ogunbowale and fullback Jakob Johnson.
On defense, the Texans starting defensive line included Darrell Taylor, Tommy Togiai, Solomon Byrd, Tim Settle Jr., linebackers Nick Niemann, E.J. Speed and Jake Hansen, safeties M.J. Stewart and Russ Yeast, corners D’Angelo Ross and Jaylin Smith.
