Source: Astros to call up No 2 prospect Jacob Melton to major league club

HOUSTON – The Houston Astros are calling outfielder Jacob Melton, their #2 ranked prospect, a league source tells KPRC 2.

Melton, a left-handed bat, will join a team desperate for hitters who can bat from the left side, only carrying switch-hitter Victor Caratini and left-handed third catcher César Salazar.

Melton is hitting .254 with an .879 OPS in Triple-A this season, with 2 home runs and 7 RBI.

He was the Astros second round pick in 2022, out of Oregon State and has been a mainstay at or near the top of the team’s top prospects list.
