HOUSTON – The Texans and veteran offensive lineman Zach Thomas have agreed to a one-year contract extension, keeping a capable, experienced blocker on the roster hours before the official start of free agency.
Thomas was a restricted free agent who’s now under contract through the 2025 season on a deal negotiated by Equity Sports CEO Chris Cabott.

Thomas, 26, has upside as a younger lineman who played six games last season for the defending AFC South champions. He has played in 17 career games overall.
The Texans are reshaping their offensive line under newly-promoted offensive line coach and run game coordinator Cole Popovich, trading Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders, trading guard Kenyon Green to the Philadelphia Eagles and releasing veteran guard Shaq Mason and adding guard Laken Tomlinson in free agency.

Last year, the Texans were awarded Thomas off waivers from the New England Patriots.

Thomas is a former Chicago Bears sixth-round draft pick from San Diego State.
Thomas (6-foot-5, 305 pounds) has also played for the Los Angeles Rams.
A former All-Mountain West Conference selection, Thomas played in eight games for the Patriots before being waived.
He has played 339 snaps on offense, including 17 snaps last season for the Texans last season and appeared in 25 special teams snaps for Houston.
He played in six games for the Texans last season.
