HOUSTON – The Texans are bringing back linebacker Jake Hansen on a one-year, $2 million contract with a base value of $1.7 million, plus incentives, per a league source.
Hansen was a restricted free agent who didn’t receive the right of first refusal tender, along with all of the Texans’ restricted free agents.

Instead, they signed him to a one-year contract below the $3.263 million right of first refusal tender, just as they did with defensive tackle Kurt Hinish. Hinish signed a one-year deal with a maximum value of $2.35 million with a base value of $1.8 million, per a league source.
A former undrafted free agent from Illinois, Hansen was one of the three undrafted free agents to make the Texans’ opening-game 53-man roster in 2021.
Hansen has been a productive, aggressive player for the Texans on defense and special teams.
Hansen played in 16 games last season with two starts and recorded 28 tackles, one for a loss, one quarterback hit and one sack.
As a rookie, he played in 11 games with two starts and had 25 tackles and one fumble recovery. He has 65 career tackles with two sacks, three tackles for losses and three quarterback hits.
Hansen, 26, 6-foot-1, 230 pounds), finished his college career, playing for former Texans coach Lovie Smith, with 276 career tackles, 28 1/2 tackles for losses, eight sacks, 12 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries with three interceptions.
