TEXANS NEWSLETTER: Quick break and then countdown to season opener

This is KPRC 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy checking in with this week’s newsletter.

ROSTER CUTS

Tuesday was cutdown day for all 32 teams as they trimmed rosters from 90 down to 53. Texans released WR Noah Brown along with CB’s Lonnie Johnson Jr. and Desmond King among others.

• Ex-Patriots DB Myles Bryant ‘showcased versatility,’ as he makes Texans’ roster

WR Xavier Hutchinson and RB British Brooks made the team and they spoke on Wednesday as did Ryans.

WHAT’S AHEAD?

The Texans had a light week after a grueling training camp and preseason. They worked out on Wednesday where the media was able to attend before they closed out with meetings and then a quick break was underway. Good move by Head Coach DeMeco Ryans giving the guys and the staff a chance to get some R&R before ramping things up on Monday.

• Source: Texans sign former Dolphins, TCU safety Mark Perry, C.J. Stroud’s high school teammate, to the practice squad.

Some of the players I’m told got out of town for quick trips but many decided to stay in town and relax, get treatment and get their minds right for the new season ahead.

We’ll get to chat with Head Coach DeMeco Ryans and the players again on Monday afternoon.
