Texans hire former Patriots running back Shane Vereen as player personnel assistant

Former NFL running back joins scouting department

HOUSTON – The Texans hired former New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen as a player personnel assistant.

Vereen was previously a college football analyst, working for the Pac-12 Network and FOX Sports.

Vereen, 35, rushed for 1,489 career yards and eight touchdowns, catching 221 passes for 1,864 yards and 11 scores.

The former second-round draft pick from Cal earned one Super Bowl ring with the Patriots as they won Super Bowl XLIX.

He played for the Patriots from 2011 to 2014 and with the New York Giants from 2015 to 2017. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2018 and was released from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

In a divisional round playoff win over the Texans in 2012, he had five catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns with seven runs for 31 yards and a touchdown.

At Cal, he was a second-team all-conference selection who rushed for 2,834 career yards and 29 touchdowns.
