KPRC 2 Athlete of the Week: Braylon Payne, Elkins Baseball
MISSOURI CITY, Texas – This week KPRC 2 and UTMB Health Athlete of the Week is Elkins senior outfielder Braylon Payne.
Payne is the program’s record holder for most stolen bases and recently broke the school record for hits.
In breaking the hits record, he passed three major leaguers—Tristan Gray, James Loney and 3-time All-Star Matt Carpenter, who held the record.
“Everyone gets the see the talent,” said head coach Jaime Acosta. “It’s not just a talent-level thing with him. He’s a good young man and that stands out to be more than anything else.”
“I create havoc on the basepaths and work hard every single time,” said Payne.
Payne is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the #53 MLB Draft Prospect for the 2024 Draft. He is committed to play in college at the University of Houston.
