HOUSTON – Hello everyone, this is KPRC 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy checking in with his week’s Rockets Newsletter!

State of the Rockets

This season has not gone well and that’s no secret. This is a young club, but I think I can speak for many of you out there that the time for excuses about youth has long passed. Yes, these guys are young, but it’s quite obvious the commitment to EFFORT every night on the floor from the PLAYERS is not there.

Okay, I get it, this is also about COACHING as well and that hasn’t been great either. I do believe in accountability with the players that are paid to play,  play hard, give effort, accept coaching has to be at the forefront. This group just isn’t there.  Not everyone, but enough to make it very disappointing.

What’s ahead

As I write this newsletter, is it late Wednesday night after the Rockets fell to the Sacramento Kings 130-128 at Toyota Center to fall to 13-42 on year and suffering their 18 loss in the past 20 games. Yes it is bad. REALLY BAD!

When is that NBA Draft you may ask? June 22! Mark it down and the Rockets hopefully will have that No. 1 overall pick!

The Rockets now hit the road Friday night at Miami to open their last road trip before the All-Star break. After the stop on South Beach, it’s on to Philly on Monday and then to OKC on Wednesday.

NBA trade deadline

The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 2 p.m., and if the Rockets make any moves make sure to follow the coverage on Click2Houston.com. The big question for me is will they trade Eric Gordon who more than deserves to be moved to a playoff contender for what he’s put up with here recently with the Rockets. He’s certainly earned it!
